Yeah, we are going to have a baby! We found out early December and I think Jer was a little scared at first, but quickly warmed up to the thought of being a dad. I think we were both a little shocked at how quickly we became pregnant. I was on a bunch of meds and was warned by the Dr. not to get my hopes up, that it would probably take months and there was something else we could try if we didn’t get pregnant in 6 months. Well it took us one month and now we are expecting our first born August 13, 2007!
We only told a few close friends we were pregnant because both Jer and I wanted to tell our families in a unique way. So, we decided to buy baby bibs that said “I love Grandma” “I love Grandpa” and “I love Auntie” and have them open their gifts together during Christmas. It was so funny to watch their confusing faces turn to excitement. “Does this mean what I think it means?” said Ruth! Tears and hugs and the news was finally out! Here is video at my Aunt’s house. Our friend Katie was there for the announcement and took video so we could post their reactions! It was an incredible Christmas and one I don’t think anyone will forget!
We had our first appointment yesterday and when the Dr. entered the room he jokingly asked if we wanted to give his other infertility patients a lesson on how it’s done! We had an ultrasound and got to see the heartbeat! There was a strong heartbeat and so far the baby looks good. We have a photo too! Baby Smith is only 3/4″ so still very small, but you can make out the head and start to see where the arms and legs are going to form!
As soon as we get the baby website up and going we will let you know!
And yes, we want to know if it is a boy or girl!

CONGRATS!!! That is way cool! Looks like you did a good job with the surprise! Shoot for August 16th…I know it’s a few days longer than expected, but it’s my birthday and I’d be happy to share with him or her!!! Good luck with everything!! So, let’s see…since I’m a big Chinese Gender Chart fan (it was accurate on both of my kids), I am predicting a GIRL!!! It goes by the age of the mother at conception and the month she conceived (I took age 26 and November) and it says a girl!!!! THINK PINK!!! Love you guys

Congratulations! I’m so happy for you guys. It was great that Katie was able to catch their reactions on film - what a wonderful memory for all of you.

Holy Crap! That’s awesome! And catching it all on video, that was a neat way to tell everyone. Congratulations you two! Obviously things are going well in Rapid, and just remember, if the baby comes out Pakistani, don’t blame me! Take care!
